Mount Dora High School
C.T. Hsu + Associates' master plan for Mount Dora High School merged two school campuses across a city street, linking them by the first-of-its-kind high school pedestrian bridge in Central Florida.
A former elementary school on the west side of the street was demolished to construct the new high school's academic buildings; two-story brick structures that are connected by upper level canopied walkways overlooking landscaped and hardscaped courtyards. This plan allowed the existing high school to continue functioning on the east side of the street during construction of the new buildings.
Staff and students relocated to the new academic buildings once construction was complete, and the old west side campus was demolished to make room for a new performing arts center, wellness facility, gym and parking. Community use of the performing arts center and athletic facilities was central to the overall layout of the high school.
