Hot Destination: Santorini

Santorini is a beautiful Greek island located on the south end of the Cyclades island complex. In the 15th century BC a volcano erupted and the center of the island collapsed into the sea, forming a caldera. The colourful rock faces and steep cliffs give the island a distinctive quality. It is best known for its wines which are some of the best wines in the world. The climate is mild and dry which makes for perfect shopping weather. The town of Fira, the island's capital, has an archaeological museum that is crammed with finds from excavations at Akrotiri. Santorini has magnificent beaches made of black, red, or white sand and the sea is usually a deep blue color or crystal clear. The abundance of hotels, shops and taverns make for a wonderful island getaway.
