AEI's expertise in the planning and design of piping for the efficient transport of liquids and gases covers facility types in all our markets of practice. Specialty piping systems respond to programmatic need relating to the following specific systems and requirements: Pressurized gases—compressed air, nitrogen, oxygen, argon, carbon dioxide, and helium—are defined based on gas quality, moisture content, pressure requirements, and equipment flow rates. Fuel gases—natural gas and methane—are designed to accommodate pressure and flow rates to support the combustion at individual equipment. The design also accounts for safety concerns including pressure relief locations and sizes. Vacuum systems are designed in accordance with the required depth of vacuum, with significant differences between healthcare systems and chemistry research systems. The standard barometric pressure of the location of the pump is also used to define the limitations of the system. High purity water systems include requirements for resistivity, bacterial counts, and other parameters defined by industry standards organizations such as ASTM and the Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute. Additionally, water and waste systems are designed, where required, to accommodate independent systems based on flows and processes.
