2001 Arrowood Merlot, Sonoma (750ml)
Supple and harmonious, with spice, currant, blackberry and kirschlike flavors that are rich and syrupy, finishing with a burst of fruit and anise. Tannins are ripe and fine-grained. Drink now through 2009. 1,854 cases made.

The deep ruby/garnet-colored 2001 Merlot exhibits sweet coffee and cocoa notes intermixed with plump cherry and plum-like fruit. This precocious 2001 is best drunk over the next 5-6 years.

Fairly concentrated and elevated, with cherry, plum, tobacco and light wood-based aromas. Sweet plum, brown sugar and tobacco coat the palate, which is ripe and on the spot but not what you'd call complex. Finishes with vanilla, nutmeg and a breeze of herbs. Very nice and easy to like.
